Streamline Feed offers a powerful, targeted advertising system that helps your business reach the right audience at the right time. Whether you're promoting your business, a specific product, service, or even a news article, our ad platform puts your brand in front of engaged readers across the platform.

    🚀 Quick Start

    1. List your business on the directory (or claim an existing listing)
    2. Subscribe to a Paid Partnership Plan that includes advertising
    3. Go to your Business Dashboard → Campaigns tab
    4. Click "Create Campaign" and follow the guided setup
    5. Choose what to promote, set your targeting, and activate!
    💎

    Paid Partnership Plan Required

Advertising is available exclusively to businesses on a paid partnership plan. Free listings can browse the directory but cannot create or run ad campaigns.

    How Advertising Works

Ads on Streamline Feed are displayed in two key locations on every news article page:

    • Featured Image Banner: A sleek overlay banner on the article's main image — high visibility, first thing readers see. This banner rotates through your business info, promoted products, services, and articles.
    • Author Box Showcase: A 3-card showcase directly below the author information — a natural reading break point where engagement is highest. Shows your business card, a product/service spotlight, and any promoted article.

Our system uses smart targeting to match your ads with the most relevant audience based on article category, reader location, and reading interests.

    Prerequisites

Before you can start advertising, you need:

    1. A registered account on Streamline Feed
    2. A business listing in the Business Directory. If you don't have one yet, see our guide on Adding a Business
    3. Business ownership — you must be the owner of the business listing. If someone else created it, you can claim the listing
    4. A paid partnership plan — advertising features are only available on paid plans. Visit our Pricing page to choose a plan that fits your business goals. Free listings do not have access to the campaign dashboard

    Accessing Your Campaign Dashboard

    1. Navigate to your business page in the directory
    2. Click the "Dashboard" button (only visible to business owners)
    3. Switch to the "Campaigns" tab
    4. You'll see your campaign manager with options to create, edit, pause, and monitor campaigns

    Creating Your First Campaign

Click "Create Campaign" to open the campaign builder. Here's what you'll configure:

    Step 1: Campaign Basics

    • Campaign Name: Give your campaign a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "January Nairobi Promotion")
    • Campaign Type: Select "Display Ad" — this is the standard ad format
    • Goal Type: Choose what you want to achieve — Awareness (maximize views), Traffic (drive clicks to your business), or Engagement (encourage interaction)

Step 2: Choose What to Promote

You can promote different aspects of your business:

    Promotion TypeBest ForWhat Shows
BusinessBrand awareness, new businessesYour business name, logo, description, and a link to your directory page
ProductLaunching or highlighting a specific productProduct image, name, price, description, and a direct link
ServicePromoting a specific service you offerService details, description, and a link to your services page
ArticleContent marketing, PR, sponsored contentArticle headline, image, excerpt, and a direct link to the article

Step 3: Customize Your Ad Content

    • Custom Title: Override the default title with a compelling headline
    • Custom Description: Write a concise, action-oriented description
    • CTA Text: Customize the call-to-action button text (e.g., "Shop Now", "Learn More", "Book Today")
    • Custom Image: Upload a high-quality image specifically designed for your ad
    • Spotlight Items: Pin specific products or services to always show in the showcase

    Step 4: Set Your Targeting

This is where the magic happens. Precise targeting means better results and less wasted impressions:

    • Target Category: Choose which news category your ad appears in (e.g., "Business", "Technology", "Sports"). Leave blank to show across all categories
    • Target Locations: Select one or more cities/regions to show your ad to readers in those areas. Leave blank for nationwide reach

    Step 5: Schedule

    • Start Date: When the campaign should begin (defaults to immediately)
    • End Date: When the campaign should stop (leave blank to run indefinitely)

    Step 6: Review Ad Strength

Before launching, check the Ad Strength Meter at the bottom of the campaign form. It analyzes your campaign configuration in real-time and gives you a score out of 100:

    Score RangeRatingMeaning
80–100🟢 ExcellentYour ad is well-configured and should perform strongly
60–79🟡 GoodSolid setup, but there's room for improvement
40–59🟠 AverageConsider adding more targeting or content customization
0–39🔴 Needs WorkMissing key elements — follow the tips to improve

The meter also provides actionable tips to improve your score.

    Targeting Best Practices

Follow these strategies to maximize your return on investment:

    🎯 Match Your Category

The biggest scoring factor in our ad system is category match. If you run a tech business, target Technology articles. A restaurant? Target Lifestyle or Food. Your ad gets a +50 relevance boost when the target category matches the article category.

    📍 Target Your Location

Location targeting gives another +50 relevance boost. If you operate in Nairobi, target Nairobi. You can target multiple locations — great for chains or businesses serving several cities. Ads without location targeting still show everywhere but with a lower priority.

    🔄 Keep Content Fresh

Update your campaign content regularly. Swap in new images, update descriptions, and rotate promoted items. Fresh content maintains reader interest and click-through rates.

    📸 Use High-Quality Images

The ad showcases are highly visual. Use professional, high-resolution images that represent your business well. The ideal aspect ratio is 3:2 (landscape). Avoid text-heavy images — the system already displays your title and description.

    ✍️ Write Compelling CTAs

Instead of generic "Click Here", use action words that match your goal:

    • "Get 20% Off Today" — for promotions
    • "Book a Free Consultation" — for services
    • "See What's New" — for product launches
    • "Read the Full Story" — for article promotions

How Ads Are Served (Behind the Scenes)

Understanding how our system selects which ad to show helps you optimize your campaigns:

    1. Eligibility check: Only active campaigns within their date range are considered
    2. Scoring: Each eligible campaign is scored based on:
      • Category match (+50 points)
      • Location match (+50 points)
      • User interest history match (+30 points)
      • Base score (+100 points for being active)
    3. Selection: The highest-scoring campaign wins. Ties are broken randomly for fair rotation
    4. Display: The winning business's cards are rendered in the article's author box

Key insight: A campaign with both category AND location targeting (200+ score) will always outperform a generic campaign with no targeting (120 score). Be specific with your targeting.

    Tips for Maximum Results

    ✅ Do

    • Add at least 3 products/services to your business listing — the showcase displays 3 cards
    • Use custom images designed for advertising, not just your logo
    • Target specific categories that align with your business
    • Set clear start/end dates for promotional campaigns
    • Monitor your Ad Strength score and follow the improvement tips
    • Keep your business listing up to date with accurate info and reviews

    ❌ Don't

    • Don't leave targeting blank unless you want nationwide untargeted reach
    • Don't use low-quality or blurry images — they hurt click-through rates
    • Don't run the same campaign indefinitely without refreshing content
    • Don't forget to add products and services — empty showcases look unprofessional

    Ad Format Reference

    Featured Image Banner

This is the overlay at the bottom of the article's featured image. It's compact and rotates through views:

    • Business view: Shows your logo, name, rating, and city
    • Article view: Shows the promoted article's title, category, and a "Read" button
    • Product view: Shows the product image, name, description, and price
    • Service view: Shows the service name and description

The banner auto-rotates every 6 seconds and features a hover shimmer effect for engagement.

    3-Card Showcase

This is the main showcase placed in the author info box. It displays three cards side-by-side (scrollable on mobile):

    • Card 1 — Business Card: Your business's featured image, name, city, category, rating, and a link to your directory page
    • Card 2 — Product or Article Card: Either a promoted product with price and image, or a promoted article with headline and excerpt
    • Card 3 — Service Card: A featured service with name, description, and a CTA

On mobile, the cards auto-scroll every 3 seconds to show readers there's more content.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How much does advertising cost?

Advertising is included in our paid partnership plans. Each plan tier offers different levels of campaign features and reach. Visit our Pricing page to compare plans and choose the one that fits your budget and goals. You can also check the Feature Packages documentation for a detailed breakdown.

Can I run multiple campaigns at the same time?

Yes! You can create and run as many campaigns as you want. The system will select the most relevant one for each article view based on targeting scores.

How long does it take for my ad to go live?

Ads go live immediately when you set a campaign to "Active". There's no review queue — your ad starts serving right away.

Can I see how my ads are performing?

Campaign performance analytics are available in your business dashboard. You can track impressions, clicks, and engagement metrics. Keep an eye on the Leads tab for any leads generated from your ads.

What happens if I don't have products or services listed?

The showcase will still display your business card, but the product and service cards will show placeholder content. For the best results, add at least 3 products and 3 services to your listing before running campaigns.

Can I promote someone else's article?

Currently, you can only promote articles published under your own author account. This ensures the integrity and authenticity of promoted content.
