Junet Sheikh Nuh Mohamed (born 25 October 1977) is a Kenyan politician and long-serving Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) stalwart who represents Suna East Constituency in Migori County, a seat he has held since 2013. He made history as the first Kenyan Somali to be elected MP in the Nyanza region and has steadily risen through Parliament’s leadership ranks, serving as Minority Chief Whip from 2017 and, from 2024, as Minority Leader in the National Assembly, where he leads the Azimio coalition’s agenda in the 13th Parliament. A close ally and long-time “fixer” for ODM leader Raila Odinga, he has also served as the party’s Director of Elections and later Director of Campaigns, co-chaired the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) secretariat, and remains central to opposition strategy, coalition negotiations and parliamentary tactics. His committee work has included stints on the Public Accounts Committee, the House Business Committee, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and the Public Debt and Privatisation Committee, giving him significant influence over fiscal and governance oversight. Born in Mandera and raised partly in Migori after his businessman father relocated to South Nyanza, Junet attended Mandera D.E.B. Primary School and Lenana School before studying business at the University of Nairobi and completing a Diploma in Business Management at Woodvale Institute. His political career began at the grassroots as a nominated councillor and later mayor of Migori County Council (2005–2008), building on a decade as a self-employed businessman. Over time he has become one of the most recognisable parliamentary voices—known for sharp wit, fluent Kiswahili and hard-edged partisan jabs—and a key player in national negotiations, from the BBI process to post-2022 realignments. At the same time, he has faced criticism and questions over issues such as alleged links to the NYS scandal (which he has denied and which have not resulted in prosecution), illustrating how his prominence at the heart of Kenya’s polarised politics attracts both loyal support and persistent scrutiny.
Minority Chief Whip, National Assembly (2017-Present)
Member of Parliament for Suna East (2013-Present)

He was a central figure in the Azimio la Umoja 2022 presidential campaign, and faced criticism after the loss regarding campaign management.
Has faced arrests and charges related to alleged hate speech and incitement during political rallies.
