Dr. Ruth Adhiambo Odinga is the County Woman Representative for Kisumu in Kenya’s 13th Parliament, elected in August 2022 on an ODM ticket. A daughter of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and sister to Raila and Oburu Odinga, she previously served as Kisumu’s first Deputy Governor (2013–2017), then as Senior Advisor to the Governor and Director for Special Programs and Disaster Management (2017–2022). Her training includes a social science degree and a postgraduate certificate in development studies from the University of Oslo. She also held executive roles at Spectre International before entering county leadership. Since 2022 she has focused on women’s economic empowerment and youth skilling through NGAAF-backed grants, bursaries, water tanks, TVET support, and small-enterprise tools, and in 2023 launched a five-year strategic plan for her office. Recent coverage shows group funding disbursements and sector partnerships in 2024–2025, plus engagements with the Ministry of Health on JOOTRH and health-system resilience. She founded and chairs the Kenya Network of Women Governors (KEWOG) and remains an advocate for gender equality, devolution, and accountable local development.
