Kimani Wamatangi is the current Governor of Kiambu County, elected in 2022 on a platform focused on good governance, economic empowerment, and community development. Before becoming governor, Wamatangi served as the Senator for Kiambu County for two consecutive terms (2013–2022). During his tenure in the Senate, he played a key role in legislation, county oversight, and resource allocation to strengthen devolution and improve service delivery at the county level. Beyond politics, Wamatangi is widely recognized for founding the Wamatangi Foundation, a philanthropic initiative dedicated to: • Education support through scholarships and school infrastructure development. • Health programs offering medical camps and access to healthcare for underserved communities. • Water and sanitation projects providing clean water solutions across Kiambu. • Economic empowerment through training programs and small business support. he Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raided his home and county offices over alleged procurement irregularities, abuse of office and conflict of interest involving the supply and installation of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system.
During the raid they seized KES 12 million and around USD 13,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of corruption.
Wamatangi obtained conservatory orders from the High Court blocking his arrest or prosecution pending petitions and hearings
