Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba is the Minister of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Member of Parliament for Iramba West. An economist by profession and a ruthless political survivor, Nchemba is the financial architect of the current administration. Unlike many of his peers (Makamba, Nnauye) who were purged, Nchemba successfully navigated the treacherous July 2024 cabinet reshuffles and was retained by President Samia to oversee the nation's treasury through the crucial 2025 election period. Nchemba is known for his signature \"patriotic\" scarves and hardline rhetoric. As Finance Minister, he has been responsible for steering Tanzania through severe dollar shortages, implementing highly unpopular mobile money levies, and securing billion-dollar IMF/World Bank credit facilities to fund the SGR and hydropower megaprojects. He is widely considered a leading contender for the presidency in the post-Samia era, wielding immense influence over both the party machinery and the national budget.

Sacked as Minister of Home Affairs by President Magufuli in 2018 amid rising political assassinations, kidnappings, and police brutality
