Nape Moses Nnauye is a seasoned Tanzanian politician, a master of political propaganda, and the Member of Parliament for Mtama Constituency. The son of the legendary CCM ideologue Moses Nnauye, Nape has spent his life in the trenches of party politics. He was instrumental in securing John Magufuli's election in 2015 as the CCM Publicity Secretary, but later became one of the few inner-circle figures to publicly oppose Magufuli's media crackdowns, leading to his sacking in 2017 (an incident famously culminating in an intelligence officer pulling a pistol on him in public). Rehabilitated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in 2022, he was appointed Minister of Information, Communication, and Information Technology. However, his tenure ended in absolute disaster in July 2024. A video leaked online showing Nnauye boasting to a crowd in Bukoba that election results in Tanzania are not necessarily determined by the votes in the ballot box, but by \"those who count and announce the results.\" This brazen admission of electoral rigging caused a national uproar and threatened to legitimize the opposition's grievances ahead of the 2025 elections. President Samia fired him within 24 hours. Despite the scandal, his entrenched network allowed him to retain his parliamentary seat in the heavily managed 2025 elections.
