Hikaru Nakamura (born 9 December 1987) is an American chess grandmaster and the world's most popular chess streamer. A five-time United States Chess Champion, he was a prodigy who broke Bobby Fischer's record to become the youngest American master at age 10. While he has been an elite player for two decades (peaking at World No. 2), his "second career" as a Twitch streamer revolutionized the game's popularity during the pandemic. Nakamura is considered one of the greatest speed chess (Blitz and Bullet) players in history, often ranked #1 online. His style is tactical, resourceful, and psychologically imposing. In 2024, he achieved a career renaissance in classical chess, qualifying for the Candidates Tournament and pushing his rating back over 2800.
