David Munyua (born c. 1995) is a Kenyan veterinarian and professional darts player from Kabati, Murang’a County. After qualifying as a veterinarian, he began treating livestock and pets and still relies on colleagues to cover his calls when competing. He discovered darts by chance in a pub where his first throw hit the bullseye, inspiring him to practise daily. Within three years he won the African Darts Group Championship by defeating South Africa’s Cameron Carolissen 8–6, earning the sole African berth at the PDC World Darts Championship. Travelling outside Africa for the first time, Munyua balanced the cost of travel through sponsorship. On 18 December 2025, he came back from two sets down to beat Belgium’s world No. 18 Mike De Decker 3–2, becoming the first Kenyan to win a match at the championship. The upset secured at least £15,000 in prize money and drew accolades from President William Ruto, who celebrated his composure and fearless comeback. Munyua continues to champion darts in Kenya while practising veterinary medicine and has become a symbol of perseverance and sporting diversity on the continent.
