Wesley Barbasa So (born 9 October 1993) is a Filipino-American chess grandmaster. He is a three-time U.S. Chess Champion and the inaugural World Fischer Random Chess Champion (defeating Carlsen in the final in 2019). So switched federations from the Philippines to the USA in 2014 following disputes with Filipino sports officials. So is known for his incredibly solid, risk-averse style. He rarely loses games, making him one of the hardest players to beat in the world. He is a devout Christian and often credits his victories to God. He is a key member of the US Olympiad team.
