Anish Kumar Giri (born 28 June 1994) is a Dutch chess grandmaster. Born in Russia to a Nepali father and Russian mother, he moved to the Netherlands as a child. A prodigy who became a GM at 14, he has been a consistent Top 10 player for a decade. Giri is famous for his solid style (earning the meme reputation of drawing every game) and his sharp wit on social media (Chess Twitter). However, he proved his winning capability by winning Tata Steel Chess in 2023. He is considered the best defender in modern chess.
