Documented career positions
Ahmed Farah, HSC is a seasoned Kenyan trade economist and the Executive Director of the East African Business Council (EABC), a role he assumed in February 2026. A technocrat with deep roots in trade facilitation and infrastructure development, Farah is widely respected for his ability to navigate the complex intersection of the private sector and government policy. He previously served as the Country Director for TradeMark Africa (TMA) in Kenya, where he oversaw a multi-million dollar portfolio focused on modernizing the Port of Mombasa and digitizing trade corridors. His career trajectory in 2024 and 2025 was marked by high-level appointments and corporate turbulence. In November 2024, he was appointed CEO of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) but left the position abruptly in April 2025 after a fallout with the Board of Directors regarding strategic direction. Despite this setback, his expertise led to his appointment by President William Ruto to the National Investment Council, where he advises on strategies to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). His current mandate at the EABC involves driving the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda across the East African Community.
