In 2020, while serving as CEO of KCB Group, Joshua Oigara and other bank executives were implicated in a scandal involving the failure to report suspicious transactions related to the 2015 National Youth Service (NYS) fraud. The matter was resolved when KCB, along with other financial institutions, entered into an out-of-court settlement with the Director of Public Prosecutions and contributed to a Sh385 million payment to the government to avoid criminal prosecution.
Beginning in 2024, in his capacity as CEO of Stanbic Bank Kenya, Oigara became involved in a high-profile legal dispute concerning a reversed transaction of approximately $7.2 million involving Air Afrik Aviation Ltd. After the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued summons for Oigara to be questioned regarding the incident, he and the bank successfully challenged the summons in the High Court, which issued an injunction barring criminal proceedings and police questioning while the underlying commercial dispute remained pending.
