James David Vance is the 45th Vice President of the United States. Born into severe poverty in the Rust Belt, Vance gained national fame in 2016 with the publication of his bestselling memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," which chronicled the socioeconomic struggles of white working-class Americans. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and graduating from Yale Law School, he worked as a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley before returning to Ohio. Initially a fierce critic of Donald Trump in 2016, Vance underwent a dramatic political evolution, embracing the "MAGA" populist agenda. He was elected to the U.S. Senate representing Ohio in 2022. Recognizing his youth, intellectual rigor, and appeal to the Rust Belt, Trump selected him as his running mate in 2024. As Vice President, Vance is considered the ideological heir apparent to the America First movement, fiercely advocating for economic protectionism, strict immigration enforcement, and a non-interventionist foreign policy.
