James Kamau Murango was born and raised in central Kirinyaga in KIranyaga County, Kenya and experienced a rural life growing up in an area popular for farming. He attended Kiandani Primary School between 1985 to 1994 and proceeded to highschool. Sen.James joined the Technical University of Mombasa where he studied Plant Engineering and continued to Kenya Institute of Management where he studied a Business course that equipped him with essential leadership and adminstrative skills. James also attended Atlantic University where he earned a Masters in Mining and Engineering, London Graduate School University for Masters in Business Adminstration and finally Common Wealth University earning PhD in Business Adminstration.Murango's career began shortly sfter he graduated form the Technical University of Mombasa and worked in various industrial and agricultural outfits focusing on installation, maintenance and management of machinery. Having gained enough skills by early 2000s he established himself as a technical director in self employed ventures running businesses foced on plant operations and agricultural equipment. Around 2008 Murango shifted his focus to agribusiness a sector closely related to his upbringing. By 2015 Murango agribusiness had grown significantly raking in over 6million per month not only serving as a source of income but creating employment opprtunities to Kiranyaga residents. In 2017 Murango made his entry into politics when he ran for Member of County Assembly for Kerugoya ward and won on a Jubilee ticket due to his local popularity. He was appointed majoritty leader of the County Assembly and was apart of several committees including Budget and Appropriations, Finanace and Economic Planning, Agriculture Committee, Transport and Public Works and County Assembly Business Committee. In 2022 Murango ran for senator with a UDA ticket and is still serving till date. He was appointed chairperson of the Senate Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. Sen.Murango was also ranked Kenyas top performing Senator by InfoTrak alongside Sen.Dan Maanzo of Makueni County with a 52% approval rating. Sen.Murango's political star conyinues to rise with hopes of him running for Governor in the upcoming 2027 election.
