Fidel Castro Odhiambo Odinga (1973–4 January 2015) was the firstborn of Raila and Ida Odinga and became a visible figure around his father’s political orbit in the 2000s. Educated at Consolata Primary in Westlands and Mbeji Academy in Siaya (1989–1992), he later studied in India and the United States before returning to Kenya ahead of the 2002 elections. In business, he held interests noted in petroleum, logistics and real estate, and was frequently profiled as a popular, youth-facing mobiliser who was often tipped—formally or informally—as a future political standard-bearer. He married Eritrean national Lwam (Gatachew) Bekele in a private Greek Orthodox ceremony in Nairobi in July 2012 after an earlier marriage to Veronica Wanjiru; he and Bekele had a son. Fidel died suddenly on 4 January 2015 at his home in Karen; preliminary post-mortem examinations by government and family pathologists were inconclusive, and he was buried on 10 January 2015 in Bondo. These events drew national attention and large public mourning
