Kalonzo, Karua, and Wamalwa pitch tent in Nyamira and Kisii, rallying support for the former Super CS in a direct challenge to the government.

The battle for the Nyanza vote block is entering a combustible new phase as the heavyweights of the United Opposition descend on Kisii and Nyamira.
In a calculated show of force, principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa are pitching tent in the region next week. The objective is clear: to endorse former Super CS Fred Matiang’i as the new kingpin of Gusiiland and a formidable national player for 2027.
Matiang’i, who has maintained a tactical profile since leaving office, is using this "homecoming" to re-enter the ring. His tenure as Interior CS earned him both fear and respect, and his allies believe he is the missing link in the opposition’s lineup. The tour, starting Monday in Nyamira and sweeping through Kisii, is designed to test the waters and consolidate a base that has shown signs of drifting towards the government.
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, a key architect of the visit, termed it a "political earthquake." "We are not just visiting; we are planting a flag," he declared. "Matiang’i is a national asset, and his journey back to the top starts at home."
Gusiiland has historically been a swing region, often deciding the margin of victory in tight races. By locking it down early, the United Opposition hopes to deny Ruto a crucial buffer zone. The rallies are expected to be high-octane, with the leaders likely to exploit the rising cost of living and the government’s unfulfilled promises to galvanize the crowds.
The "Brigade" is coming with a singular message: The government has failed, and the alternative is ready. All eyes are now on Matiang’i to see if he still commands the authority that once made him the most powerful minister in the land.
"The tiger is awake," Onyonka warned. "And he is bringing his friends."
