Senate Speaker Amason Kingi rejects President Ruto’s claim that senators received Ksh 150 million in bribes. He affirms no evidence has been submitted and urges any credible claims be formally presented for investigation.
Nairobi, Kenya – Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has firmly rejected President William Ruto’s claim that senators received Ksh 150 million in bribes. He stated that no formal complaint or evidence has been presented to him implicating any legislator in such corruption.
At a Kenya Kwanza–ODM joint parliamentary meeting on August 14, 2025, President William Ruto alleged that some senators—and MPs—received bribes up to Ksh 150 million to manipulate parliamentary decisions, including impeachment matters. He asserted the intelligence was “credible” but stopped short of naming suspects.
On August 20, 2025, during a Senate sitting, Speaker Amason Kingi denied any knowledge of such claims. He confirmed that he has received no complaints or intelligence—formal or informal—of bribery or extortion involving senators.
He said any future credible evidence presented would be addressed without hesitation. Kingi reiterated that senators are bound by high standards of integrity under constitutional and statutory provisions and reminded that the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act provides a formal mechanism for investigating misconduct by members.
A faction of senators joined Kingi’s call, demanding that President Ruto produce evidence or face summons to Parliament. They warned that unsubstantiated allegations erode public confidence and demean the legislative institution.
