The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially issued nomination certificates to its parliamentary aspirants for Kasipul and Ugunja constituencies, alongside several ward representatives, following contentious party primaries. This move aims to solidify the party's candidates ahead of the upcoming general elections, despite earlier reports of irregularities.
NAROK, Kenya – The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, formally presented nomination certificates to its successful aspirants for the Kasipul and Ugunja parliamentary seats. The ceremony, held in Narok, also saw certificates issued to candidates vying for Member of County Assembly (MCA) positions in Kariobangi North, Narok Town, Nyasiengo, and Nyamaiya wards.
The issuance was overseen by the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), led by Emily Awita. This development follows a period of intense internal party activity, including primaries held on September 13, 2025, which were reportedly marred by various challenges and accusations of irregularities in some areas.
The ODM party primaries, a crucial step in selecting candidates to represent the party in the general elections, have historically been a source of both excitement and contention. The September 13, 2025, primaries were no exception, with reports of logistical hitches, delays, and disputes over results emerging from various constituencies, including Kasipul and Ugunja.
Party officials have consistently emphasized their commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring fair processes. The NECC's role in overseeing the certificate issuance underscores the party's efforts to bring closure to the nomination phase and unite its ranks ahead of the main electoral contest.
Today's event in Narok is part of a broader exercise by the ODM party to finalize its list of candidates. Earlier in September, the party had already issued nomination certificates to the parliamentary aspirant for Magarini constituency, as well as MCA candidates in Kisia East and other wards. This phased approach allows the party to address specific issues arising from different electoral areas before a comprehensive rollout.
During the ceremony, Emily Awita reiterated the party's dedication to democratic ideals. “Today marks a significant milestone in our party’s journey as we gather to issue nomination certificates to our winners. We celebrate the democratic spirit that defines us,” Awita stated, acknowledging the rigorous process involved in selecting candidates.
The finalization of ODM's candidate list for key constituencies like Kasipul and Ugunja is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape. These constituencies are considered strongholds for the party, and the chosen candidates will play a pivotal role in mobilizing support and ensuring the party's continued dominance in these regions.
Political analysts suggest that the resolution of the nomination process, particularly after initial reports of chaos, could influence public perception and policy discussions. Stakeholders are now keenly observing how the party will consolidate its base and address any lingering grievances from the primaries. There is an expectation for clarity on the party's campaign timelines, resource allocation, and internal safeguards to prevent future disputes.
The focus now shifts to the general election campaign, where the nominated candidates will face off against rivals from other political parties. The ODM leadership will be tasked with ensuring party unity and providing robust support to its flag bearers as they embark on the final stretch towards the polls.
