Kindiki hits out at Gachagua over post-election violence remarks

Kindiki Condemns Gachagua’s Remarks as ‘Reckless and Dangerous’

Vows Kenya Will Not Revisit Post-Election Violence

NAIROBI, Kenya – May 18

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over recent comments that alluded to possible unrest around the 2027 General Election, branding the remarks as both “dangerous and reckless.”

Speaking on Saturday, Kindiki warned that the government will not tolerate any form of incitement or threats to national stability, especially in the lead-up to the next election.

“Kenya will never return to political barbarity. We will not allow a repeat of the 2007/2008 post-election violence,” Kindiki said, referencing one of the darkest chapters in the country’s democratic history.

Government Assures Stability Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Deputy President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding peace and protecting every Kenyan’s right to live, work, and vote without fear.

He added that the security apparatus is fully alert and will deal decisively with anyone attempting to incite chaos, regardless of their political standing.

Calls for Responsible Leadership

Kindiki further urged political leaders to exercise restraint and foster unity instead of sowing division. He emphasized that irresponsible rhetoric only serves to reignite painful memories and threatens the progress Kenya has made over the years.

Gachagua Yet to Respond

As of Sunday morning, Gachagua had not issued a public response to Kindiki’s remarks. His earlier comments sparked widespread backlash, with various leaders and civil society groups calling for accountability and a firm stance against incitement.

A Nation Determined to Move Forward

Kindiki’s statements come as Kenya continues to heal from past political wounds. The government has consistently reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward any form of violence, and this latest rebuke underscores a broader push to maintain peace ahead of the 2027 elections.
