Kenyan mission attending to Karua’s detention - PS Sing’Oei

Kenya Intervenes After Martha Karua Detained at Julius Nyerere Airport in Tanzania

Dar es Salaam, May 1

The Kenyan government has moved to address the detention of senior politician Martha Karua at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Korir Sing’Oei, confirmed on Saturday that the Kenyan High Commission in Dar es Salaam is actively engaged with Tanzanian authorities to resolve the matter.

In a statement issued to the press, Sing’Oei said the Kenyan mission, under the leadership of High Commissioner Isaac Njenga, has reached out to local officials for clarification and is closely monitoring the situation.

“The High Commission has contacted relevant authorities in Tanzania regarding the detention of Martha Karua. We are following up on the issue and will apprise the public as soon as we have further details,” he stated.

Details surrounding Karua’s detention remain unclear, with Tanzanian authorities yet to issue an official statement. Karua, a prominent figure in Kenya’s political landscape and a former presidential running mate, was reportedly held upon arrival at the airport, prompting diplomatic intervention.

This development has sparked concern among political leaders and the public in Kenya, many of whom have taken to social media demanding her immediate release and an explanation from Tanzanian officials.

As the situation unfolds, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that the Kenyan government is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of its citizens abroad.

More updates are expected as consultations between the two governments continue.
