Kenya’s energy regulator has slightly lowered fuel prices for the period 15 September to 14 October 2025, setting Nairobi’s petrol price at KSh 184.52 per litre and noting that transport costs drive wide differences between towns
Nairobi, Kenya — 2025-09-14 08:00 EAT. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has released its latest monthly fuel price review, cutting prices marginally for the period 15 September to 14 October 2025
Price changes:
Super petrol: ↓ KSh 0.79 per litre
Diesel: ↓ KSh 0.11 per litre
Kerosene: ↓ KSh 0.80 per litre
Nairobi pump prices:
Petrol: KSh 184.52
Diesel: KSh 171.47
Kerosene: KSh 154.78
Highest prices:
Mandera: Petrol at KSh 206.70 per litre
Elwak, Moyale, Wajir, Tarbaj follow closely
Lowest prices:
Kaloleni, Mombasa: ~KSh 181 per litre
Gilgil, Nakuru: ~KSh 183 per litre
EPRA attributed the disparities to transport and storage costs across regions.
Consumer frustration: Many Kenyans say the cuts are too small to offset high taxes and rising living costs〔306569600112182 L105-L106〕.
Political criticism: Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro accused the government of adding over KSh 80 per litre in taxes, calling the cuts a “gimmick” offering no real relief
Household budgets: Minimal price relief keeps fuel costs high for transport, farming, and manufacturing sectors.
Regional equity: Wide price gaps between border towns and coastal areas raise questions about infrastructure and taxation fairness.
Policy debate: Lawmakers demand a review of taxes to balance revenue needs vs. consumer welfare.
