A Ugandan village leader, hospitalised after his two wives allegedly joined forces to attack him over infidelity, has made a surprising call for reconciliation from his hospital bed.

A domestic dispute turned violent in Uganda’s Buyende District when two co-wives allegedly set aside their rivalry to attack their husband for his admitted infidelity, leaving him with severe injuries.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the brutal consequences of domestic conflicts. For Kenyans, it echoes the complex family dynamics and disputes that often simmer beneath the surface, sometimes ending in tragedy and testing the limits of forgiveness.
Robert Bebwa, a 51-year-old local council vice chairperson, was rushed to Kidera Health Centre IV after the assault. Speaking from his hospital bed, Bebwa recounted the shock of the coordinated attack. “This was a calculated move by my wives. They put aside their differences and attacked me, accusing me of cheating on them,” he told the Daily Monitor.
While he admitted to the extramarital affair, he noted the severity of the revenge was beyond comprehension.
The two women, Esther Naluvuma, 44, and Norah Nakayunja, 51, have since been arrested. Busoga North Police spokesperson, Samson Lubega, confirmed the arrests and stated that an investigation into unlawful wounding is underway. He strongly condemned the violence, urging the public to seek peaceful resolutions through official channels rather than taking matters into their own hands.
This attack is not an isolated event in the region. It marks the fifth reported case in the Buyende and Kamuli districts in the last four years where women have allegedly mutilated their husbands' genitals over domestic disputes.
Despite the brutal assault, Bebwa has expressed a desire to reconcile with his wives, a decision driven by concern for their eleven children. “We have lived together for many years, and I cannot raise the children alone,” he explained. “Healing and reconciliation are important for their future.”
Medical staff have indicated that Bebwa is responding well to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery without permanent damage. His plea for reunion now hangs over the pending police investigation, leaving the future of his fractured family in profound uncertainty.
