229,000 teachers trained for CBC roll-out

In a significant stride towards the full implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced that an impressive 229,292 teachers from both public and private institutions had undergone comprehensive training on the new framework by mid-March 2025. This massive training initiative is critical for the success of Kenya's ambitious educational reforms.

Speaking at a stakeholder dialogue in Murang’a County, TSC official Stephen Kiogora highlighted that this nationwide training program is specifically designed to facilitate a smooth and effective transition from junior to senior secondary school, slated for 2026 under the CBC structure. He emphasized that the training focuses on equipping educators with essential new pedagogical skills. These skills include fostering critical thinking, enhancing digital literacy, and proficiently utilizing remote learning tools, such as livestreamed classes, which are vital for addressing potential staffing gaps and ensuring educational continuity.

Complementing these efforts, representatives from the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) confirmed their advanced progress in preparing Grade 10 learning materials. They are also developing detailed career-pathway curricula tailored for diverse student interests and aptitudes in arts, sciences, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, ensuring the CBC aligns with future workforce needs.
