Zarina (also known as Zarin) Merali is a Kenyan businesswoman and philanthropist. She is the widow of the late billionaire Naushad Merali and manages his estate, including leadership roles within Sameer Group and its subsidiaries. Following her husband’s death in 2021, she became chairperson of Sameer East Africa and oversees major holdings including a 74.06 percent stake in Sameer Africa, 65.46 percent of Sasini Tea and 5.2 percent of NCBA Group. With her husband she co‑founded the Zarina and Naushad Merali Foundation, which funds healthcare, education and relief projects across Kenya. Notably, she donated KSh 100 million through the foundation to build the Zarina Merali Surgical Daycare Centre at Kenyatta National Hospital. Opened in May 2022, the centre provides outpatient surgical services and helps reduce congestion in the hospital’s wards. Merali also provides food aid and cash support to families in West Pokot and Turkana and continues to oversee the diversified investments of the Sameer Group across agriculture, finance, real estate and manufacturing.
