Ummulkher Kassim Sheikh is the Woman Representative for Mandera County, elected in 2022 on a UDM ticket. She is a member of the powerful ruling coalition but maintains an independent voice on matters affecting the Somali community. Before politics, she was a nominated MCA in the Mandera County Assembly. She serves on the Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity. Her flagship projects involve drilling boreholes for women in rural Mandera and sponsoring girls' education through the NGAAF fund. She has been a strong critic of the teachers' crisis in the North, demanding that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) localize recruitment.
