Dr. Robert Satia Pukose (born 10 March 1972) is a Kenyan politician, consultant surgeon and long-serving legislator who has represented Endebess Constituency in Trans Nzoia County since its creation for the 2013 general election. First elected on a URP ticket and subsequently re-elected in 2017 (Jubilee) and 2022 (UDA), he was the inaugural MP for the new constituency and is now serving his third consecutive term. In the 13th Parliament he serves as Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Health, a role in which he oversees scrutiny of the Ministry of Health, key agencies in the health sector and major pieces of health legislation, after previously serving as the committee’s Vice-Chair (2013–2017) and later as Vice-Chair of the Energy Committee (2017–2022). His committee work has placed him at the centre of debates on universal health coverage, NHIF reforms and the rollout of new primary healthcare laws, while at the constituency level he is frequently highlighted for combining legislative work with hands-on medical outreach, including conducting free surgeries for residents. A career medic turned politician, Pukose studied medicine at the University of Nairobi, earning an MBChB before completing his internship at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. He later returned to the University of Nairobi for a Master of Medicine in General Surgery, graduating in 2007, and went on to serve in various positions in the Ministry of Health—rising from medical officer at Kabarnet District Hospital to District Medical Officer of Health in Marakwet and Keiyo, and then Medical Superintendent/District Medical Services Officer at Koibatek and Kabarnet hospitals between 2000 and 2012. These roles, together with his ongoing practice as a consultant surgeon, underpin his technocratic approach to health policy in Parliament and have earned him recognition both nationally and in his alma mater’s records as an example of a medical professional who has transitioned into high-level public leadership.
