Naisula Josephine Lesuuda (born 30 April 1984) is a Kenyan politician, women’s rights advocate and peace activist serving her second term as Member of Parliament for Samburu West, having first been elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2022 on a KANU ticket. She first entered national politics in 2013 as a Nominated Senator under TNA, becoming the youngest female senator at the time and one of the most prominent young women in the 11th Parliament. A former journalist with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation—where she worked as a reporter, news anchor and host of “Good Morning Kenya” between 2006 and 2010—Lesuuda came to national attention through her peace work after deadly cattle-rustling attacks in Laikipia led her to help found the Laikipia Peace Caravan and other local peace initiatives, efforts that earned her the presidential Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) in 2010 and the ILO Wedge Award in 2011. In 2013 she founded the Naisula Lesuuda Peace Foundation, which promotes peaceful coexistence among pastoralist communities and focuses on girls’ education, scholarships, and the fight against FGM and child marriage—work that later saw her recognised as one of the top five winners of the inaugural One Young World Awards in 2018 for outstanding contribution to peace and education. Born and raised in Samburu as the first of three children of an Anglican bishop and a businesswoman, she attended St Mary’s Primary School and Sing’ore Girls High School before studying Communication and Community Development at Daystar University and later pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration at Kenyatta University. In Parliament she has served on high-impact committees such as Budget and Appropriations, and has sponsored legislation including the Public Service Internship Bill, 2022 and the Kenya Roads (Amendment) Bill, 2023, reinforcing her profile as a bridge between grassroots peace work, gender advocacy and national policy-making.
