Kimani Ichung’wah (born 6 April 1978) is a Kenyan economist and politician who represents Kikuyu Constituency in the National Assembly. Kimani Ichung’wah (born 6 April 1978) is a Kenyan economist and politician who represents Kikuyu Constituency in the National Assembly. He grew up in Gikambura Village, Karai ward, Kiambu County and was the second-last of 13 siblings; his father ran a butchery, a family business that influenced his entrepreneurial outlook. He attended Kikuyu Township Primary School, Alliance Boys High School and trained as a Certified Public Accountant at Kenya College of Accountants and Strathmore College. Ichung’wah later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and History from the University of Nairobi and holds a diploma in banking. Before entering politics, he worked with his brother selling mali-mali goods in Nairobi and served as a cash-and-bank accountant at Diverseylever East Africa (a Unilever subsidiary) between 2001 and 2003, started his own butchery business, and later worked for Madison Insurance (2003–2006) and the Standard Group (2006–2008). Elected MP for Kikuyu in 2013 under The National Alliance (TNA), he was re-elected in 2017 (Jubilee Party) and 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance ticket. He made history in 2017 by becoming the first MP to be elected unopposed under the 2010 constitution. During his first term he served as vice-chairperson of the Public Investments Committee and was a member of the Committees on Parliamentary Powers & Privileges and Agriculture, Livestock & Co-operatives. In the 12th Parliament he chaired the Budget and Appropriations Committee (2017–2019) and served on the Committee on Appointments and the Committee on Members Services and Facilities. He sponsored key legislation including the Alcoholic Drinks Control (Amendment) Bill 2014 and the National Disaster Management Authority Bill 2019. Following his third election in 2022 he was appointed Majority Leader of the National Assembly.
