Dommaraju Gukesh (born 29 May 2006), commonly known as Gukesh D, is an Indian chess grandmaster and a prodigy who has shattered age-related records. He is the youngest player in history to win the FIDE Candidates Tournament (at age 17 in 2024), earning the right to challenge Ding Liren for the World Championship. Gukesh is the leader of the "Indian Golden Generation" (along with Praggnanandhaa and Erigaisi). In 2023, he overtook Viswanathan Anand as India's No. 1 player, ending Anand's 37-year reign.
