Gideon Maitha Mung'aro was born on 18th Sepember 1966 in Kilifi County. He attended Malindi Highschholl and went on to enroll in the Gresta University in Thik where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Management and sharpened his skills byg studying County Governance in the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. His political career began in 1998 when he was elected mayor of Malindi where he was noted for his focus on urban development and environmental conservation. Mung'aro was a Member of Parliament of Kilfi in the 2007 and then of Kilifi North between 2013 and 2017. During this period he was also Chief Whip for the CORD coalition and Chairman of the African Union Parliamentary Group. Mung'aro ran forf Governor in 2017 but lost to his predecessor Amason Kingi After his unsuccesful run for governor President Uhuru Kenyattas adminstration appointed him Chief Adminstrative Secretary of the Ministry of Lands which during his time oversaw distribution of over 39000 title deeds. He was later appointed as the Chief Adminstrative Secretary of the Ministry of Devolution. In 2022 Mung'aro once again ran for governor and won on an ODM ticket promising transforfmative agenda focused on infrastructure, healthcare, education and water supply which he has indeed delivered in the three years he has beingv in power having established the Afya Maishani Programme aimed at provind healthcare to Kilifi County residents.
