Fred Kapondi Chesebe (born 1963) is a Kenyan politician and long-serving Member of Parliament for Mt. Elgon Constituency in Bungoma County. He is currently serving his third term, having first been elected in 2007, then returning to Parliament after the 2017 and 2022 elections. Over the years he has represented Mt. Elgon under different party banners, most recently the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and has been a central figure in the politics of a constituency marked by historical marginalisation and conflict dynamics around land and security. Kapondi has combined parliamentary work with significant roles in public institutions. Notably, he served as Chairman of Postbank (Kenya Post Office Savings Bank) between 2014 and early 2017, where official records describe him as bringing parliamentary and governance experience into the state-owned financial institution. In Parliament, he has been particularly associated with security and cohesion issues, having chaired the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security during the 10th Parliament, and served on committees such as Powers and Privileges and National Cohesion & Equal Opportunity.
