Doris Donya Aburi is the Woman Representative for Kisii County, elected in 2022 under the Wiper–ODM coalition. Before joining politics, she built a large and loyal following as a prominent radio personality on Egesa FM (Royal Media Services), where her bold, empathetic and justice-focused on-air persona earned her the name “Donya.” Her transition from radio to politics was fuelled by her strong grassroots popularity, especially among women, youth and low-income communities who viewed her as a voice for dignity, fairness and opportunity. As Woman Representative, Donya has positioned herself as a champion for women’s empowerment, social welfare, and equity in resource allocation across Kisii County. Her public engagements reflect a continuation of the advocacy work she began on radio—highlighting domestic violence, access to education, and community welfare. She remains an influential political figure in the Gusii region, using her media background to maintain high visibility and direct communication with her constituents.
