Anita Soina (born December 24, 1999) is a prominent Kenyan climate activist, politician, and author. A member of the Maasai community, she has gained international recognition for her advocacy on climate change, water security, and sustainable development. Soina is the founder of the environmental organization Spice Warriors and The Soina Foundation, both of which focus on youth empowerment, climate action, and community welfare. Born and raised in Kajiado North, Kenya, Soina developed an early interest in leadership and community service, influenced by her family's engagement in local affairs. She pursued her higher education at the Multimedia University of Kenya, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Corporate Communication in 2021. Additionally, she completed specialized training in the health effects of climate change through HarvardX. Before dedicating herself fully to environmental conservation, Soina worked in digital and artist management within the Kenyan music and media industry, including roles at EMB Records and Shirko Media. Soina’s activism began in earnest at age 18 when she founded Spice Warriors, an organization dedicated to rallying young people to be environmentally conscious and active in climate protection. Her work expanded to address the intersection of climate change with other social issues, leading her to establish The Soina Foundation. The foundation operates programs focused on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), sexual and reproductive health, and educational inequality, often targeting marginalized and indigenous communities. In 2023, her dedication to these causes led to her appointment as the Global Youth Champion for the UN-hosted Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) global partnership, a role she held through 2024. In the 2022 Kenyan general election, Soina made history as one of the youngest individuals to contest a seat in the National Assembly. She ran for the Member of Parliament position for Kajiado North. Although her candidacy was unsuccessful, the bid marked a significant milestone in her career, bringing greater attention to youth representation in politics and the need for policy-based climate action. She initially campaigned under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) before transitioning to the Green Thinking Action Party (GTAP). Following the election, she continued her advocacy by working to educate legislators on environmental issues. Soina is the author of the book *Green War*, which details her journey as an environmental activist and the specific challenges faced by climate warriors in the Global South. Her advocacy has taken her to various international platforms, including COP26, COP27, and the Stockholm+50 conference, where she has consistently amplified the voices of African youth. Her contributions to public awareness and environmental advocacy have earned her numerous accolades, including recognition as the "Media Influencer of the Year" at the 2024 IGAD Media Awards. Through her continued work in digital media and community projects, Soina remains a visible figure in the global effort to mitigate climate change and promote sustainable development.
