World-record holder Jebet headlines Sirikwa Classic

The upcoming Sirikwa Classic cross-country meet in Eldoret, scheduled for February 22, 2025, is set to feature one of Kenya's brightest athletic stars. Athletics Kenya proudly announced that Agnes Jebet, the current world-record holder for the women’s 10km road race (an astonishing 28:46), will be headlining the prestigious event.

Jebet expressed her enthusiasm about participating, stating that returning to a competitive domestic race provides a “perfect opportunity” to fine-tune her preparations for the upcoming international season. Her presence is expected to draw significant crowds and elevate the profile of the Sirikwa Classic, a key fixture in the Kenyan athletics calendar.

The 25-year-old Kenyan sensation achieved her remarkable 10km world record in Valencia in January 2025. Beyond her 10km prowess, Jebet has also clocked an exceptionally impressive half-marathon time of 1:02:52. These performances have firmly established her as one of the world’s fastest and most formidable female distance runners, making her a role model for aspiring athletes in Kenya and beyond.
