Kenya Met has listed five regions, including the Rift Valley and Lake Basin, to receive rainfall over the next five days, while advising Nairobi residents to prepare for cool weather.

The weatherman predicts a wet reprieve for select regions this week, even as the rest of the country braces for continued dry spells.
Don't put away the umbrella just yet—at least, not if you live in the Rift or the Lake Basin. The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released its five-day forecast for the period covering February 14 to February 18, 2026, revealing a divided sky. While much of the country will swelter under sunny and dry conditions, five specific regions are slated to receive significant rainfall.
The forecast comes as a relief to farmers in Kenya's breadbasket, who have been anxiously scanning the skies in preparation for the planting season. However, the Met department has advised the public to remain vigilant, as the transition from dry to wet conditions can often trigger flash floods in low-lying areas.
According to the advisory, the following areas should expect showers, particularly in the afternoons:
For the capital city, the forecast is a mixed bag. Nairobi and Kiambu are expected to experience cool, cloudy mornings giving way to sunny intervals. However, residents have been urged to "keep warm," as temperatures are expected to drop significantly at night. The Met department noted that these conditions are typical for this transitional time of year.
The localized rains are a critical window for land preparation. "Farmers in the highlands should take advantage of this moisture," the report suggests. However, for the arid north and coastal strip, the wait for the long rains continues, with high temperatures expected to persist. As the climate becomes increasingly erratic, these short-term forecasts are becoming the lifeline for Kenya's agriculture.
