Tusker FC aims to bounce back from a challenging start to the FKF Premier League season as defending champions Kenya Police FC and Nairobi City Stars rejoin league action. The Brewers are under pressure to secure a win after consecutive losses.
Twelve-time champions Tusker FC are under immense pressure to turn their fortunes around as they face Mathare United in their third FKF Premier League fixture today, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Dandora Stadium. The Brewers have had a difficult start to the 2025/2026 season, suffering back-to-back defeats in their opening two matches. They began their campaign with a 2-0 loss against KCB FC, followed by a 2-1 defeat to Posta Rangers.
Tusker coach Charles Okere acknowledged the tough period but expressed confidence in his team's ability to recover. He noted that the team conceded four goals in two matches due to controllable circumstances and has focused on addressing these issues in training.
Meanwhile, reigning FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC and Nairobi City Stars are set to rejoin league action. Kenya Police FC, who secured their maiden league title in the 2024/2025 season, will kick off their title defence against Mara Sugar FC.
Kenya Police FC recently received a significant financial boost, securing a KSh 25 million sponsorship deal from Co-operative Bank of Kenya for the 2025/2026 season. This partnership, unveiled on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, is expected to enhance the club's performance and support player welfare, technical aspects, logistics, and youth development.
Nairobi City Stars will also be looking to make an impact as they return to the league. Their previous match was against Mathare United in the Kenyan Premier League, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
The 2025/2026 FKF Premier League season officially kicked off on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The league features 18 teams, with several matches scheduled across different venues. This season also marks the return of night games, with the first floodlit match being a 'Disciplined Forces Derby' between Kenya Police and Ulinzi Stars at Police Sacco Stadium.
The increased corporate investment in clubs like Kenya Police FC highlights growing confidence in football as a platform for social impact and brand visibility. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has also increased the ultimate financial prize at the domestic level, with the Premier League champions now set to receive KSh 15 million, a significant increase from previous seasons. This move is aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the league and fostering sustainable football institutions.
For Tusker FC, continued poor performance could impact their standing in the league and potentially affect fan morale and sponsorship opportunities. For Kenya Police FC, the new sponsorship and their status as defending champions bring increased expectations to perform well both domestically and in continental competitions. They are set to represent Kenya in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
