Rigathi Gachagua labels the Jubilee Party a "government mole" within the opposition, escalating tensions with the Kenyatta faction and complicating efforts to form a united front for 2027.

The cracks in the proposed "United Opposition" have widened into a chasm. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly accused the Jubilee Party, led by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, of operating as a "fifth column" designed to sabotage the anti-government movement from within.
In a scathing interview with a vernacular station, Gachagua alleged that key Jubilee officials are on the payroll of the State House. He claimed their role is to leak strategy and sow discord among the opposition principals. "We are sitting with people who dine with the oppressor at night," Gachagua declared. "Jubilee is not an opposition party; it is a government parastatal."
The attack is seen as a preemptive strike against the potential presidential bid of former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, who is rumored to be Jubilee's flagbearer. Gachagua, who views himself as the rightful kingpin of the Mt Kenya region, warned Matiang'i that using Jubilee as a vehicle is "political suicide."
The infighting delights the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition. With the opposition busy tearing itself apart over trust issues and protocol, the government is proceeding with its agenda largely unchecked. For Gachagua, the message is clear: if the opposition is to unite, it must first purge the "traitors"—starting with his former boss's party.
