The opposition civil war escalates as MP Peter Salasya drops a bombshell allegation: Is the ODM Secretary General's sudden financial muscle powered by the very government he claims to fight?
If Robert Alai attacked Sifuna’s strategy, Peter Salasya has attacked his integrity. The Mumias East MP, known for his unfiltered outbursts, has claimed that Edwin Sifuna’s recent Kitengela rally was "government-funded." This is a nuclear allegation in opposition politics. To be accused of taking "State House money" is to be branded a traitor, a mole, and a sellout.
Salasya’s claim weaves into a growing narrative of paranoia within the Azimio coalition. "You cannot fight the government by day and dine with them by night," Salasya insinuated in a fiery address. He questions how Sifuna, an opposition Senator, can mobilize the millions of shillings required for such a massive logistical operation without external help.
This allegation taps into a deep vein of suspicion among opposition supporters. There is a fear that the Ruto administration has perfected the art of "soft capture"—funding rival factions within ODM to keep the party at war with itself. If Sifuna’s rally was indeed state-sponsored, it would mean the opposition’s loudest voice is compromised.
Sifuna has dismissed the claims as the "rantings of a comedian," but the damage is done. In the court of public opinion, the seed of doubt has been planted. Is ODM fighting Ruto, or is it fighting itself while Ruto pays the bills?
"The hand that feeds you controls your mouth," Salasya warned. The question for Sifuna is: Who is feeding the rally machine?
