Senator John Methu claims an "assassination attempt" after police and goons teargassed opposition leaders in Murang'a, sparking condemnation from former DP Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has termed the chaotic scenes at Ngonda Shopping Center in Murang'a as an "assassination attempt," after a convoy of opposition leaders was teargassed by police and blocked by boulder-wielding goons.
The incident occurred as leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua left a church service. Methu, alongside Senators Joe Nyutu and Karungo Thang’wa, found their path blocked by what they described as "state-sponsored militia" working in concert with the police.
"I feel sorry that I helped hand over this country to a presidential accident," a furious Methu told reporters. The Senator claimed the attack was pre-meditated to silence the mounting dissent in the Mt Kenya region.
