In the wake of violent protests, President William Ruto has assured entrepreneurs that the government will provide full support to businesses that were damaged or looted.
Nairobi, Kenya – President William Ruto has pledged decisive support for entrepreneurs and business owners who suffered devastating losses during last week’s anti-government protests. Speaking in Konza City on World MSME Day, the President condemned the violence that led to looting and arson across parts of the country, affirming that the government will not allow Kenya to slip into “lawlessness.”
“The private sector is the backbone of our nation, and we will stand by those who were hit by this chaos,” Ruto said to a gathering of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) leaders.
The President unveiled a recovery plan aimed at jumpstarting affected businesses and safeguarding them against future unrest. Among the key measures are increased police presence in vulnerable commercial zones and fast-tracked processing of insurance claims for property damage.
In addition to the financial and logistical support, Ruto issued a national appeal for peace and restraint. “Let us resolve our grievances through dialogue—not destruction,” he urged.
The pledges were met with cautious optimism by business leaders, who emphasized the need for swift implementation. With Kenya’s economy still recovering from global shocks and local unrest, MSMEs—often hailed as the lifeblood of employment—are looking to the government not just for promises, but for timely, tangible support.
As tensions simmer nationwide, the President’s remarks signal an attempt to stabilize the economic pulse and rebuild confidence in the state’s ability to protect commerce and uphold order.
