Kenya’s entertainment community is in mourning following the untimely passing of Zachariah Kariuki, better known by his stage name Mr. KK Mwenyewe, who died on Monday, July 14, 2025, after a short illness. His death occurred at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital (some reports reference Level 4), as confirmed by fellow comedian Kafengo and multiple credible news outlets  .

A gifted young satirist, KK rose to prominence with biting yet playful impersonations of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, earning him national attention and a follower base exceeding 1.1 million on TikTok, alongside hundreds of thousands more on Facebook  . His online presence was a digital mirror for politics and society, beloved by Kenyans across the spectrum.

Former Deputy President Gachagua led the public to mourn his passing, calling him “a content creator per excellence and inspiration to many” (). Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah described him as “more than just a performer…a cultural commentator and a brave young patriot”  .

A Computer Engineering student at Kisii University, KK’s breakthrough came in 2022 with a viral political skit that captured the attention of Nairobi’s leadership—Governor Johnson Sakaja even helped clear his school fees, acknowledging his skill and potential  .
