EPRA reduces fuel prices by up to Sh2 per liter, with Petrol now retailing at Sh182.52 in Nairobi, offering slight relief to motorists and households.

Kenyan motorists have woken up to a lighter burden today. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a reduction in pump prices for the January-February cycle, slashing Super Petrol by Sh2.00, Diesel by Sh1.00, and Kerosene by Sh1.00 per liter.
The new prices, effective midnight, bring a welcome respite to a population battered by the high cost of living. In Nairobi, Super Petrol will now retail at Sh182.52, Diesel at Sh170.47, and Kerosene at Sh153.78. EPRA attributed the drop to a stabilizing shilling and a slight dip in the landed cost of imported refined petroleum.
"This is a signal that the macroeconomic fundamentals are correcting," said an EPRA statement. The shilling’s resilience against the dollar has reduced the import bill, allowing the regulator to pass savings to the consumer. For the transport and manufacturing sectors, even a shilling dropped is a margin gained.
While the reduction is modest, it reverses a trend of hikes that defined late 2025. All eyes now turn to the matatu sector to see if fares will reflect the new reality, or if the savings will end at the fuel nozzle.
