President William Ruto has donated Sh1 million to the family of renowned comedian Mr. KK Mwenyewe following the entertainer’s recent death, as announced at a memorial event held in Nairobi.
Nairobi, Kenya – President William Ruto has announced a personal donation of Sh1 million to the family of late comedian Zakaria "Mr. KK Mwenyewe" Kariuki. The contribution was revealed by Dennis Itumbi, Head of Special Projects at State House, during a candlelight memorial event for the beloved entertainer on Tuesday.
Itumbi said the President wanted to ensure the funds reached KK’s mother promptly to help cover funeral and support costs. He explained that Ruto had allocated the money from the presidential special projects fund. After the announcement, Itumbi personally took the cash to the family home in Kiambu to deliver the President’s sympathies.
Zakaria Kariuki, known online as Mr. KK Mwenyewe, died last week at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, prompting an outpouring of grief across Kenya. Fellow comedians and fans praised his satirical impersonations, especially of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Comedian Kafengo, who announced his passing, urged public support and prayers for KK’s family.
The late entertainer had risen to fame with witty low-budget skits and had amassed a large following. Political leaders, including Gachagua, also publicly mourned his death. In announcing the donation, President Ruto’s team emphasized its intent was to show solidarity with grieving Kenyans and support the arts community during this difficult time.
