NTSA launches duty-update module and cautions drivers against paying middlemen.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has rolled out a digital duty and records update for all motor vehicle and motorcycle owners nationwide, a mandatory initiative aimed at verifying tax compliance and modernizing Kenya’s vehicle registry.
Submit a duty/records update letter: Addressed to NTSA at any of its offices, this letter must include the owner’s contact information (email and phone). A stamped copy is provided as receipt of submission.
Attach accompanying documents:
National ID copy
Original logbook
KRA entry document (import declaration)
Proof of duty payment
Free of charge: Submissions and updates incur no fees.
Processing time: Updates completed within seven working days after verification. Vehicle owners will be notified when to collect their documents.
Optional duplicate logbook: After updating records, owners may apply via eCitizen’s NTSA portal. This service costs KSh 2,550, and processing takes three working days.
Tax compliance verification: Ensures imported vehicles met customs duty requirements before registration.
Data integrity: Helps NTSA combat fraudulent registrations, resolve logbook discrepancies, and strengthen overall road safety oversight.
