Belgut MP Nelson Koech demands a probe into the Kitengela rally chaos, suggesting civilians, not police, may have been responsible for the teargas.

Belgut MP and Defence Committee Chairperson Nelson Koech has called for an immediate probe into the Kitengela rally chaos, floating the explosive theory that civilians—not police—may have deployed the teargas that dispersed the crowd.
In a surprising twist to the Sunday skirmishes, Nelson Koech has come to the defense of the uniformed forces, suggesting a "Third Force" was at play during Senator Sifuna’s aborted rally. Speaking to the press, the senior UDA legislator argued that the chaotic scenes were too orchestrated to be standard police procedure.
"We must investigate and find out," Koech stated. "We have seen politicians hiring retired officers and private security who possess these canisters. Was this the police, or was it sabotage from within?"
Koech’s comments add a layer of intrigue to an already volatile situation. If civilians are indeed deploying riot control agents in political rallies, it signals a complete breakdown of the state’s monopoly on violence. However, opposition leaders have dismissed Koech’s theory as a "sanitization" of state brutality.
Despite his defense of the police, Koech condemned the violence. [...](asc_slot://start-slot-11)"Political intolerance, of any manifestation, should not be encouraged," he warned. As the Defence Committee Chair, his words carry weight, hinting that the security apparatus is uncomfortable with being used as a pawn in party wars.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has yet to comment, but for the residents of Kitengela, it matters little who threw the canister. The result—eyes stinging and businesses closed—remains the same.
