An angry crowd in Embu County attacked and forced MP John Kaguchia offstage on Sunday after he announced plans to impeach Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen for his controversial "shoot-to-kill" remarks.
Embu, Kenya – A church service in Embu County turned chaotic on Sunday after two Members of Parliament—John Kaguchia (Mukurweini) and Gitonga Mukunji (Manyatta)—were violently ejected by an angry crowd following their announcement of plans to impeach Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
The drama unfolded during a retirement ceremony presided over by Rev. Ndungu, when Kaguchia took the stage to declare, “As MPs of Mukurweini and Manyatta, we are going to file a motion to remove Murkomen from his seat.” His remarks were met with immediate outrage from attendees, some of whom began hurling stools at the MPs while others surged toward the podium, cutting off the microphone and forcing the legislators to flee.
Reverend Ndungu intervened to restore order, urging the crowd to remain calm and allow the event to proceed. While no serious injuries were reported, Kaguchia had to be escorted out for his safety.
The incident highlights the volatile political climate surrounding Murkomen’s recent remarks, in which he suggested that police should shoot young protesters who approach police stations—comments that have ignited widespread condemnation across the country. Despite Murkomen’s attempts to clarify his words, the resulting public anger continues to ripple through Kenya’s political landscape.
As tensions escalate ahead of the protest anniversary, this confrontation in Embu reflects how deeply divided public opinion remains—and how unpredictable the fallout from Murkomen’s statement could still become.
