The new Kitui-Wote power line stabilizes the grid, slashing business costs and promising a new era of industrial growth for the Lower Eastern region.

The hum of electricity has finally replaced the roar of diesel generators in Kitui County. The commissioning of the new Kitui-Wote transmission line marks a definitive end to the erratic power supply that has choked businesses and kept households in the dark for decades.
Energy is the lifeblood of development, and for the residents of Kitui and Makueni, this infrastructure upgrade is their independence day. No longer will jua kali artisans have to down tools when the sun sets. No longer will hospitals fear blackouts during surgeries.
The new high-voltage line is designed to stabilize the grid across the Lower Eastern region. Previously, the area relied on an aging, overloaded feeder that tripped at the sight of a cloud. The new line brings:
"I have bought my first electric welding machine," says Peter Musyoka, a fabricator in Wote town. "Before, I spent KES 1,000 a day on diesel. Now I spend KES 200 on tokens. This is profit."
The project is a tangible win for the rural electrification agenda. It proves that when the government prioritizes infrastructure over rhetoric, lives change. The challenge now is last-mile connectivity—ensuring that this voltage doesnt just hum overhead, but lights up every mud-walled home in the valley.
