Fresh from securing her fourth World 1500m title in Tokyo, Kenyan athletics sensation Faith Kipyegon is set to compete in the Athlos New York City women-only meet this month, continuing her demanding season.
Kenyan middle-distance queen Faith Kipyegon is preparing for another major competition, the Athlos New York City meet, just weeks after her historic performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Kipyegon, who clinched her fourth world title in the 1500m on September 16, 2025, expressed her unwavering dedication, stating, "I can't stop pushing myself and waking up early for my morning runs."
The Athlos NYC event, scheduled for October 10, 2025, at Icahn Stadium, will be Kipyegon's final race of the season. She is expected to defend her mile title at the women-only track and field event, which was founded and funded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Kipyegon previously won the Athlos mile in 2024, clocking 4 minutes 4.79 seconds.
Kipyegon's upcoming appearance in New York follows a remarkable period of dominance in her career. At the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, she made history by becoming the first woman to win four world titles in any distance-running event, securing gold in the 1500m with a time of 3:52.15. She also earned a silver medal in the 5000m at the same championships.
Her achievements in 2025 add to an already illustrious career that includes three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500m (2016, 2020, 2024) and multiple world records. Kipyegon currently holds world records in the 1500m (3:48.68, set in Eugene on July 5, 2025) and the mile (4:07.64, set in Monaco on July 21, 2023).
The Athlos NYC meet is set to feature a strong field of international athletes. Kipyegon is anticipated to renew her rivalry with Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay, a former world record holder in the 5000m and the third-fastest 1500m runner in history. Other notable competitors in the mile race include Australia's 1500m world bronze medallist Jessica Hull, Ethiopian world indoor silver medallist Freweyni Hailu, and American 1500m champion Nikki Hiltz. Kenyan compatriot Susan Ejore will also compete alongside Kipyegon.
The event, which is a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, offers significant prize money. Winners in each race are expected to pocket KSh 7.75 million (approximately $60,000), with a total prize purse of $552,500 for the top six athletes in each of the six track events. This prize money is notably higher than that offered at the Paris Olympics ($50,000) and the Diamond League Finals ($30,000).
Kipyegon's continuous competitive schedule raises questions about potential fatigue, especially after a demanding World Championships. However, her consistent performance and personal statements indicate a strong drive to continue excelling and inspiring. "I still have that hunger to succeed in many more competitions and inspire the next generation," Kipyegon stated.
All eyes will be on Kipyegon's performance in the mile race at Athlos NYC, particularly her potential showdown with Gudaf Tsegay. Her ability to maintain peak performance after a rigorous season will be a key highlight. The event also serves as a platform for women's athletics, offering substantial prize money and high-profile competition.
