Nairobi, Kenya – July 14, 2025
In a match that will be remembered as one of the most dramatic comebacks in recent Kenyan volleyball history, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) men’s volleyball team overturned a two-set deficit to defeat the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3–2 in a gripping national semifinal held on July 12.
KDF lost the first two sets 26–24 and 25–22, placing them on the verge of elimination. However, fueled by resilience and tactical adjustments, the military side mounted a stunning revival—claiming the next three sets 26–24, 25–17, and 15–12 to seal their place in the national final.
The undisputed hero of the evening was opposite hitter Collins Muya, whose relentless offensive firepower and clutch performance under pressure earned him the Player of the Match accolade. Muya’s explosive spikes and unwavering composure were pivotal in shifting the momentum in KDF’s favor.
“We knew it wouldn’t be easy, especially after dropping the first two sets,” said Muya after the match. “But we never lost belief. Our discipline and unity saw us through.”
KDF head coach also lauded his players for their mental toughness and team spirit. “This victory speaks volumes about the character of our squad. They refused to give up, stayed focused, and fought for every point. That is the kind of mentality we’ll need going into the final.”
The championship match now looms large, with KDF set to face the winner of the other semifinal clash between perennial powerhouses General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Prisons. Regardless of the opponent, the final is expected to deliver high-octane action, pitting tactical brilliance against physical endurance in what promises to be a fiercely contested showdown.
KDF’s comeback victory has injected fresh excitement into Kenya’s volleyball scene, reigniting fan enthusiasm and underscoring the unpredictable drama of the sport. As the team prepares for the final, supporters will be hoping that the same fighting spirit carries them to a national title.
