Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna hinted at a future alliance after meeting in Kwale County, with both leaders signalling opposition to President Ruto re-election and emphasising reform riented collaboration.
Kwale, August 15, 2025 — Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have set tongues wagging about a possible opposition alliance after the two held talks on the sidelines of a Law Society of Kenya (LSK) conference in Kwale.
Kalonzo later posted a photo of their meeting on social media, captioning it with the hashtag #futurethinking, hinting at potential political realignments.
Senator Sifuna, who has recently criticised his own ODM party and publicly declared that he will not support President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, said he was open to working with “leaders committed to reforms and accountability.”
Kalonzo echoed this sentiment, reiterating his pledge to make Ruto a one-term president, while dismissing speculation that he could be warming up to join the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.
The meeting comes at a time of shifting opposition dynamics, with several leaders seeking to consolidate influence ahead of the 2027 general election. Analysts note that a potential alliance between Kalonzo and Sifuna could reshape coalition politics, particularly if it draws in other disenchanted opposition figures.
For now, both leaders have left the door open to collaboration, fuelling speculation about whether this marks the early stages of a new opposition coalition.
